Second Shooter Responsibilities

As we agreed the night before with talented wedding photographer Daniela, she will start the day with the bridal preparation and I will head where the Groom and his men are preparing. Ten minutes early and I am ready to start my day with a big smile. Since I wasn't the one to discuss the plan of the day and have their engagement shoots done earlier this year I felt appropriate to practise my intro with the groom in my head. You know - "Good Mornning, I am Jasmine. Your photographer. How do you do? ..."

And then I get a phone call form Daniela...panic in her voice, screaming for help. She had a big accident :-( Thank God she wasn't hurt, although the plan of the day changed instantly. I had to go back to pick her up and take her to bride's, then go to church as the groom and his men headed to All Nations Church already. I was gutted to miss this chance of documenting the groom and his best man's preparation, but that didn't matter any more. I had a friend in trouble, who needed me more.

The day was saved and with slight delay everyone had a beautiful day. No one remembered about the morning disaster, when bride and groom's LOVE shone in the air.
I feel blessed to have had the chance to be part of their specia day.

Here is a little note to the second shooters out there, who are reading my blogs (hope there is at least one). BE PREPARED! Anything can happen and you will be the first reliable sourse of help to be contacted. Second shooters are creative artists in training, who are documenting the day from a different angle, helping the bride to carry her dress, touching up her hair and make-up, make friends with wedding guests and at times pretend that their jokes are hilarious.

I will blog about Kim's and Peter's wedding day tomorrow. But for now, drive carefully and according to the sign posted speed limits. They are there for a reason.

  STAY SAFE!

Meeting with like-minded professionals

He: Do you shoot RAW or JPEG
Me: RAW only
He: Do you prefer landscape or portrait.
Me: I do both...
He: Really...

Few days ago I posted about my meeting with the beautiful bride to be and her parents in one of the most beautiful locations in Cambridge. But what I did forget to mention is that I met the other photographer of the day as well. Yes, there will be another photographer, as to please a bride, who is a wedding photographer herself, is hard.
Chris Boland of Distant Cloud- he is established and has huge experience in his pocket. I am so excited to have been given this chance to work with him. I love his style - relaxed and natural full of light. Apart from being and awesome photographer, he is an amazing and easy going person too.
But the best thing that happened so far is that he referred me to one of his friend photographers, who was looking for the second photographer to work with her at a wedding this Saturday. I mean, Really! in 2 days? All this time I have been telling every single friend and relatives to let me know if anyone needs my photography services. But everything felt like it has been on "Stand by". And here you go: only less than a week I know him and I have already got a wedding to shoot. And so soon? Awesome! I can't wait to share the photographs with you very soon.

Happy Birthday My Boy

I can't believe it is 8 years since the second you were born. A big, healthy child who wouldn't stop crying while being weighed and measured by the midwives in the room.
And then I felt you on my skin, in my arms and you entered my life. My heart started pounding even faster...you have arrived.

Life is funny, once I was teaching you to new things, facts, reading for you and making things you, but now it is your turn. You read to yourself and tell me all the amazing facts you have read. You surprise me with your own inventions and pieces of music. Your enthusiasm and imagination means a world to me. You are bright. You are a wonderful son.
Love your life, live it in full and embrace everything that comes with it. It can be hard at times, but never give up and follow your dreams. I know you are a fighter.

I Love Cambridge

Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK. There is so much about this town. This is an old town full of inspiring history, traditions and architecture. If my fingers could write as fast as my eyes can see, this blog would be incredibly long.
Old paved narrow streets fenced with old buildings on both sides, where the leading high street brands filled the windows with their modern looks. Follow uneven pavings leading to the world's prestigious colleges - St John's, King's, Queen's, Jesus, Trinity, where the last one once opened its doors to Prince of Wales, Charles Philip Arthur George, who earned his bachelor's degree in Art. But the very first college to be founded in the University of Cambridge was Peterhouse College.

If you want to know what is my favourite thing to do when I am in Cambridge, my answer is punting, of course. And I enjoy more being punted than punt myself. Only because I am so clumsy, I am scared to end up in the water.
River Cam goes through the heart of Cambridge and passes close to many attractive old college buildings I mentioned above. During the peak tourist season the collisions between inexperienced punters is a high possibility. There is nothing more spectacular and amusing to see someone in the muddy water after loosing their balance. Yet another funny thing that the students used to do, was to steal the poles from the punters, mainly tourists, as they passed below the college bridges and returning them when they eventually appeared on the other side of the bridge.

If you are in Cambridge be sure to not to stop your trip by just punting. There are so many beautiful parks and green spaces that can be enjoyed with some cool Pimm's at summer time or with some coffee in winter.
Let me know when you are around. I'd love to meet up and chat.

Networking

I have read a lot about networking and the importance of it in photography world. I knew all about it and today it has been confirmed - it's wonderful. Today I was absolutely chafed to meet beautiful bride to be Natasha who's wedding I will be second shooting in a month time. I met her parents and herself in the most stunning venue and discussed all in details - preparation and wedding day. I mean, isn't it wonderful when the bride becomes your friend? And it is even more wonderful when a wedding photographer herself trusts you the photos of her big day.
I met Natasha through our mutual friend a year ago, but she wasn't even engaged back then. When I found out she is getting married I was really happy for her, but couldn't even Imagine that she would choose me for such a responsible work :-)

I am so happy right now that I couldn't NOT share this with you. And since the blogposts are boring without photos, here is one.

Happy Anniversary to Us

I have been blessed with spending the last 4017 days of my life with you, laughing and learning, making mistakes and smoothing new paths, dreaming and believing, supporting and pushing each other towards our dreams. Today we celebrate our united life.

I will forever appreciate your help around house. No matter how tired you come home from work, you never mind it, because you know how much I hate doing it. You will make me sit and you will clear the room from kids' toys only because you didn't want me to whine. You'll do anything to make me laugh.

I will forever love your love of surprising me with unexpected gifts and flowers. You don't need a reason to spoil me.

Without you I am not me. Without you my dreams are empty. Without you my days are dark. Without you I have no one to whine to.
